HAPPY BIRTHDAY LADY INTERNATIONAL
75 YEARS YOUNG
LADY International is one of the oldest women’s fashion magazines in the German-speaking market. ‘Das Magazin für die Dame’, was founded in Berlin in 1950 and was dedicated to society topics, lifestyle and the great international couture fashion from Chanel to Hermès, and for the first time, focused on reporting for the sophisticated femal traveller, golfer and connaisseur.
Naturally, beauty and anti-aging was a strong focus right from the start and as early as the 1950s, LADY now with the addition of ‘International’ – reported on Hollywood goddesses such as Judy Garland and Ava Gardner, who sought eternal youth at Elizabeth Arden’s first beauty farm ‘Maine Chance’.
In the 1980s, at a time when the term SPA was only established in the USA but not yet in Europe, LADY International regularly presented the world’s most exclusive beauty and SPA oases. With large-scale themed specials, LADY International – in the 90s then with a magazine within a magazine under the title ‘SENSES – THE LADY SPECIAL FOR THE SENSES’ – made beauty farms, SPA and wellness, prevention and plastic surgery socially acceptable and exclusive lifestyle topics.
LADY International helped to shape an entire era because in the post-war years, the magazine not only brought home the latest trends from the catwalks in Paris and Milan, but also shared the latest news from London and New York in music, art and literature.
LADY International, the bi-lingual (German-English), quaterly, premium magazine – then as now – has a clear image of its reader: an independent, sophisticated and stylish woman who loves and lives an upmarket lifestyle and has a keen interest in beauty, longevity, fashion, fine jewellery, luxury travel, golf and culture, especially fine art.
